The history of the Kentucky Towers is what makes this apartment community stand out above the rest. The building was first built in 1925 on the cornet of 5th and Walnut Street as the Kentucky Hotel. It was the last hotel built in downtown Louisville before WWII. The late 1960's experienced a large growth in new apartment construction throughout the U.S. At the same time some buildings where converted into apartments, and in 1972 the Kentucky Hotel became Kentucky Towers Apartments.

In 1978, the Louisville Board of Aldermen voted 6-5 to rename Walnut Street to Muhammad Ali Boulevard. In 1997 Kentucky Towers was the largest residential building in Downtown Louisville.

In 2006, Kentucky Towers underwent a 3.5 million dollar renovation which included the new laundry facility, fitness center, cosmetic changes to both the lobby and hallways, and many apartments where upgraded by adding new countertops, light fixtures, appliances, carpet and vinyl.
